How often does a BM brake tester need calibrating?

Calibration frequency depends on the requirements that apply to your site. If you test under DVSA approval, follow the current DVSA requirements for your testing class.

How often should my BM brake tester be serviced?

We recommend servicing every six months.

What are the DVSA requirements for brake tester calibration?

They are set by DVSA and the scheme you test under, and can differ between MOT classes and heavy-vehicle testing. We calibrate to meet the requirements that apply to your site and supply a certificate, but always check the current DVSA guidance for your approval.

What is the difference between servicing and calibration?

Servicing keeps the machine mechanically and electrically sound: rollers, drive, sensors and controls. Calibration checks that the force the machine measures matches the force applied, and corrects it if not. A machine needs to be in good mechanical order before calibration means anything, so we often do both on one visit.

What does the BM Brake Testers service contract from V-Tech include?

The contract runs for 12 months and is available on a quote-only basis. Terms are tailored to each customer. Both Total-Care offers apply when taking up a new service contract, subject to approval, by 30 November 2026.

What is the breakdown response time?

Standard breakdown response is within 24 hours. A faster priority option is available, depending on the customer’s SLA. Giving us the serial number and symptoms up front helps us prepare for the visit.

Where do I find my BM serial number?

On the machine label fitted to your BM brake tester, and on every calibration certificate. It starts with SR0 followed by five digits, for example SR012345.

Do you only use genuine BM parts?

Yes. We supply and fit genuine BM parts, and where a part forms part of the measuring chain we check or recalibrate the machine before it goes back into use.

My BM brake tester came from another supplier. Can you still look after it?

Yes. BM 14200, 12200, 20200, 18200 and 11200 models are eligible, subject to age and model approval. Unmatched serial numbers are considered upon application, subject to approval. The offer is open to everyone who applies, subject to approval.

Do you cover the islands?

There are no area limits, subject to approval from V-Tech.

How do I book a visit?

Use the booking form on our contact page, call 0208 498 1369 or email sales@v-techuk.com. We reply within 24 hours; email us for urgent approval. Tell us your serial number, site postcode and what you need.
